QA Engineer Intern (Manual & Automation)

Role Overview
As a QA Engineer Intern, you will support our QA and development teams in making sure our applications work reliably for every user. You will start with hands-on manual testing (functional, regression, usability) of our Vue.js and Next.js frontends and Laravel backends and, with mentorship, learn to write automated UI and API tests. You will work closely with developers, designers, and product managers and gain real-world experience in a professional Agile team.
Key Responsibilities
Manual Testing
- Execute functional, regression, smoke, and exploratory tests on our Vue.js and Next.js web applications and Laravel-powered features.
- Test across multiple browsers, devices, and screen sizes to ensure a consistent user experience.
- Write clear test cases and checklists based on requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Log bugs in Jira with clear steps to reproduce, screenshots, and expected vs. actual results, and re-test fixes through to closure.
API & Backend Testing
- Test our Laravel REST APIs using Postman, checking responses, status codes, validation, and error handling.
- Verify that frontend features and backend APIs work correctly together.
- Gain exposure to Laravel feature and unit tests written with PHPUnit.
Automation Testing (Learning & Contributing)
- Learn and help maintain automated UI tests for our Vue.js and Next.js applications using tools such as Cypress or Playwright.
- Support basic automated API checks and gain exposure to Jest for JavaScript testing.
- Learn how automated tests run in our CI/CD pipelines before releases.
Environments & Releases (AWS)
- Test new features and releases on our AWS-hosted staging and production environments.
- Help with pre-release and post-deployment smoke checks.
Collaboration & Learning
- Work with developers to understand features, requirements, and how they are built.
- Participate in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives in an Agile environment, using Jira to track work.
- Share ideas to improve our testing process and documentation.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Currently studying, or recently graduated in, Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, or a related field (or equivalent self-learning / bootcamp).
- Basic understanding of how web applications work (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and the frontend/backend relationship).
- Interest in software testing and an understanding of basic QA concepts (test cases, bug reports, regression testing).
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical, curious approach to finding problems.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, especially for writing clear bug reports.
- Willingness to learn new tools and take feedback on board.
- Ability to work independently and stay organised in a remote team.
Nice to Have
- Any hands-on experience (academic, personal, or freelance) with Laravel, Vue.js, or Next.js.
- Exposure to an automation tool such as Cypress, Playwright, PHPUnit, or Jest.
- Experience using Postman or similar tools to explore REST APIs.
- Basic awareness of AWS (e.g., EC2, S3) or cloud-hosted environments.
- Familiarity with Jira and Git.
- STQB Foundation Level or another QA course/certification (or working towards one).
What We Offer
- Hands-on experience testing real products built with Laravel, Vue.js, and Next.js on AWS.
- Mentorship from experienced QA engineers and developers.
- Training in both manual and automation testing using industry-standard tools.
- A dynamic and collaborative team environment.
- Professional development, training, and certifications.
